Boyertown Rotary Club
The Boyertown Rotary Club is a non-profit organization of dedicated volunteers working in the local community and around the world to take action in bettering the world through humanitarian service. We are a group of local business and community leaders which has been serving the Boyertown community since 1925. We believe that no single action is too small, and no idea is too big.
We are part of an international family of over 1.2 million Rotary club members in over 180 countries, allowing us an unique opportunity to stretch our humanitarian reach to parts of the world far beyond our hometown of Boyertown, PA.
Our most visible efforts relate to building community right here in Boyertown. We have, in collaboration with others, built the Playground for Everyone, the Fenstermacher walking trail, the disc golf course, pickleball courts, and, most recently, Mackey Field at the Community Park. We also contributed to the start up of the Colebrookdale Railroad and the State Theater restoration.
Boyertown Rotary Club has a strong commitment to education. Probably not a surprise knowing that our members include teachers, former teachers, school administrators, former school board members.
Starting with kindergarten, we have Josh the Otter water safety program. The Dictionary Project provides each 3rd grader in Boyertown schools with their own dictionary. For middle schoolers, we sponsor two students to attend STEM YEA each summer. In high school, we honor a BCTC student each quarter, offer a 4-Way Test Speech Contest, and for 2 juniors, 4 days developing leadership skills at Camp Neidig.
We are here in your community. We are your neighbors and friends. Anyone with a passion to help others, build community and broaden understanding is welcome. Look for us at the Philadelphia Ave. Street Fair, Oktoberfest, Multi-Service, or other places around town. To learn more, contact our Membership Chair, George Moser.
Boyertown Rotary club has been actively engaged with the Youth Exchange program for more that 40 years. Each year more that 8,000 students, 15 - 19 years old, from over 100 countries participate in this study abroad program. Boyertown typically hosts 2 foreign students and sends 2 to 4 abroad for an academic year. If you would like to find out more about studying abroad or hosting a foreign student, contact our Youth Exchange Officer, Larry Farmer.
We know how to have fun, too! Each month we have an event dedicated to relaxing and celebrating. Whether it is Italian night at Carole and Denny Frey's home, a picnic to welcome our new (and old) foreign exchange students and bid adieu to our outbound students, a wine tasting at a local vineyard, or our annual Christmas party, we take the proverb "all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy" seriously. (This applies to the Jills as well.)
As part of Rotary International, we are able to have influence across the globe. Rotarian,Cliff Reinert, has a passion for the Rotaplast project. Rotaplast is committed to helping children and families worldwide by eliminating the burden of cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities.
Rotary's End Polio Now has helped reduce the incidence of polio by 99.9% since 1988. Today there are only a few hundred cases worldwide per year.
